NNPC Refutes False Report on February 2025 PMS Importation

 

The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC Ltd) has firmly denied claims that it imported over 200 million litres of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) in February 2025, describing the report as “false, baseless, and a reckless misrepresentation of facts.”  

In an official statement released by the company’s Chief Corporate Communications Officer, Olufemi Soneye, NNPC Ltd dismissed the allegations as either a result of poor journalism or a deliberate attempt to mislead the public.  

**No PMS Imports by NNPC in 2025**  

Setting the record straight, NNPC Ltd clarified that it has not imported a single litre of PMS in 2025. The company emphasized that it does not regulate the import activities of private marketers nor issue import licenses, making it inaccurate to attribute all PMS imports to NNPC.  

“While NNPC Limited has not imported PMS this year, it is important to state that there is no legal restriction preventing us from doing so if necessary,” the statement read. “As Nigeria’s foremost energy company, we remain committed to ensuring energy security and will step in to stabilize the market if any supply shortages arise.”  

**Warning Against Misinformation**  

NNPC Ltd strongly condemned the spread of misinformation, stating that such false reports distort market realities and mislead stakeholders. The company warned that it would take legal action against those responsible for fabricating and spreading falsehoods about its operations.  

“We urge media organizations to uphold journalistic integrity by verifying facts before publishing misleading narratives,” the statement added.  

NNPC Ltd reaffirmed its commitment to transparency and assured the public that it would continue to operate with accountability in safeguarding Nigeria’s energy sector.
