No fewer than a thousand Christian faithful both at Church of Nigeria, Anglican Communion, Ota, and the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Province 10, Elim Parish, Ota, on Sunday expressed delight at the efforts of Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency, to reduce accidents through 'ember months' enlightenment campaign.
The spiritual heads at both churches who could not hide their excitement showered prayers and words of encouragement on the TRACE team led by Ota Divisional Commander, Olaoke Victoria, to keep the good work of saving humanity through campaign.
While Provincial Pastor Bolawaye Arawole of RCCG, Ota congratulated TRACE for having brilliant personalities who value human lives and takes their job with seriousness it deserves. The Lord Bishop, Diocese of Awori, Rt Revd Dr. J. Akin Atere, appealed to TRACE not to limit such campaign to Ember Months,
Mounting the rostrum at different times on Sunday (1/12/24) in both churches, TRACE Ota Divisional Commander, Olaoke thrilled the over 1,000 congregational members with dramatic explaination of the campaign that nothing is demonic and strange about 'ember months other than other months of the year.
She told the Christian faithfuls that the Agency's visit to the church, is the continuation of taking campaign to religious Centres to reduce road crashes, under the supervision of the Area Commander, Ogun West, Commander Ajibade Adekunle, in obedience to the directive of TRACE Commander General, Dr 'Seni Ogunyemi.
According to Olaoke, TRACE was out to erase bad impression about 'ember months', and quoting from a biblical injunction in Ephesians 5:16, "Redeeming the time, because the days are evil", Olaoke warned that human failure to redeem the time by being safety conscious ensuring that the condition of their vehicles are suitable for traffic rules and regulations in best condition with necessary thing at the right time to their vehicles etc, complicate issues, leading to avoidable crashes on the roads.
Other factors that should be noticed to avoid crashes, she said include avoidance of overloading, excessive driving ,and driving against the traffic, aka "One-Way".
Cdr Olaoke further admonished adherence to using of seatbelt, while warning that traffic law does not permit pregnant women to drive, adding that nursing mothers shouldn’t sit at the front seat of vehicle.
She enjoined vehicle owners to ensure proper cross-check of their vehicle before moving them out of parks, while motorcyclists to ensure proper using of crash helmet, warning that motorists with bad sights should visit their Doctors for proper examination of their sight , especially during harmattan
She advised vehicle owners to avoid fixing their vehicles on the roads when their vehicles break down to avoid risk against the driver, roadside mechanic, and unsuspecting oncoming vehicles which may take the breakdown vehicle for a moving one before ramming into it.
She said the vehicle owner could call on TRACE telephone lines for help at any time of the day or night.
