The Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency, TRACE, at the weekend advised parents to embark on the 'Catch Them Young' syndrome of training their youths in the culture of safe and responsive driving as a means of steaming the tide of increasing rate of avoidable accidents due to care-free attitude of some drivers.
Speaking on behalf of the TRACE Area Commander, Ogun West, Ajibade Adekunle, who was being honoured (in absentia) with an award, at a private school in Ota, the TRACE Divisional Commander, Ota, Victoria Olaoke said the culture of safe and responsive driving should be paramount in the hearts of parents and inculcated in their youths.
Olaoke who represented Ajibade at the occasion also received, on his behalf, Award of Excellent Performance As Traffic Officer, admonished against the culture of nonchalant attitude to driving safety.
She said this often leads to rampant accidents, advicing people to pay more premium to their lives, and obey traffic rules rather than indulge in wrong attitude that shortens lives.
According to Olaoke, the TRACE Commander/CEO, Prince 'Seni Ogunyemi, who sent his respect and warm greetings to royal fathers present, advised the organizers of the programme to always teach parents and pupils that it is against the traffic law to allow underage children to sit in front of the car, while children below 18 is forbedden to ride or be carried on bikes, adding that this is to ensure their safety.
The Divisional Commander also harpped on ignoble attitude of driving against the traffic, a.k.a. 'One Way', which she said had claimed many lives and for which reason the state government has vowed to prosecute erring drivers apprehended on this offence.
According to the DC, anybody who drives against the traffic is assumed to be mentally unstable or is a hired killer on a mission to kill other road users intentionally, so he would be treated by law just like that.
"Parents are also advised not to drive without fasten their seat belts as it prevents chest and head injuries in case of collision", she enjoined.
While thanking the organizers of the programme for the award giving to Ajibade, the TRACE representative appreciated the presence of the Olota of Ota, Kabiyesi (Oba) Abdukabir Adeyemi Obalanlege as well as other royal fathers present, including Elegushi of Ekushi, Olu of lfo, and Olu of Wasimi, extending his warmed and revered greetings to them.
Olaoke said Ajibade who would have loved to personally receive that award was denied the opportunity by exigency of duty, as he had to travel for an emergence case.
