While many were basking in new dawn of telecommunication initiatives introduced by former President Olusegun Obasanjo's new democracy. People now find it easy to reach out to friends and loved ones globally via global system for mobile communication (GSM)
.
Bang! The reigning and foremost network providers were the MTN, ECONET and NITEL,however, call ratings were the cut throat prices of 50 Naira per minute.
Though people were glad to delve into the new initiative but per minute billings were fearful.
Gladys was trying to reach out to mother in the village on her mobile phone, while few were mobile phone owners in the town, but Mama has to borrowed from Uncle Thomas who's a cocoa merchandise, proud owner of an MTN line, but the joy was cut off while her few minutes card remaining to call back got finished when she was about breaking the new employment story to her in confirmations of answered prayers. Haba! She exclaimed in desperation of sharing her joy but per minutes bill had cut it shut.
Hmnn, While Bayo was telling his pal on ECONET line about the scholarship just won to study Engineering in the university of Ibadan, his joy knows no bound as he heard Chinedu screaming in agreement over the phone to replied him he too had just been admitted to study same course at UI but then per minute 50 Naira bill would not let him hence he has exhausted his 200 naira call card on the phone.
Shege! all this network Sha! ooo
The experience which made the difference in self pursuits from Ore town in Ondo State was that of Aminat who had got schooled in a public Secondary school coming out with flying colours in WAEC against her grandma's opinion to come home for marriage at 15, She was to get admission into a College of education being her aspiration to become a teacher who according to her was to return home to impacts children in her community getting enlightened for essence of education, but same per minute billings cut her reigns shut due to her 300 naira top up call card which had arguably ended the relay of her story to confirm to Grandma she would soon become a pride of the family in her education pursuits.
Wayoo! Grandma must have been shouting at the receiving end in Kano.
NITEL then, though seems under government control, too tried make things better but the billings would never let citizens feel the stake,it joins others in taking in cheating from populace to the managers.
Gbam! Suddenly, the news went viral that a Nigerian,a chronic businessman,Chief Mike Adenuga who believes in breaking this jinx to stop these exploitations is planning something but many thought the authority bureaucracy would not let it happen. 'For where? my brother echoed' 'e no go fiti happen'
In this high spirit,Nigerians who has known Chief Adenuga for his exploits in whatever he believes in kept hope alive. This unusual hope manifests to the licensed telecommunication company named Globacom limited, this move was borne out to display Nigerian Spirit of possibilities. People who were eager to enjoy the beauties of mobile phone calling troops out enmass everywhere to have a taste of what it looks like to call and pay as you use.
Henhen! My boss shouted in the office after she had gone to pick her Glomobile line-pack from Oju-Ore in Otta,Ogun state which she immediately begin to use, reaching out to friends and families, talking unrestictedly on phone,Nigerians for the first time now see the need to have and support indegenious organisations who has nowhere to share profits and foreign transaction to but to be kept within the systems and use same to support the nation.
Now the jinx was broken by Globacom for Nigerian occupiers to reach the world via calls,Internet network with 'Yanfuyanfu' packages. As if other network providers have choices on the new move, Nigerians all wait to see them adjusting billings one after the other. No more games, hence the rule has changed.
The journeys of 'e no go fiti happen' now becomes 'Globacom has done it' Adenuga has challenged the exploitations' We can now call without any elements of rush or anxiety from one minute crossing the 60seconds line to ended up paying for 2 minutes on 1:01 seconds calls. My Naija people shout 'E don shele'
To create easy Access, Glomobile open shop every corner within local governments, public spaces, business hubs, licensed distributors to sell Sim Cards to everybody in such alarming rate that Nigerians were glad to welcome with splendid aura of show of possibilities in hearts of my people.
