He passed away on Monday after a brief illness at the age of 81.
Solanke (1942 - 2024) was said to have died while being rushed from his country home at Ipara Remo in Remo North Local Government Area of Ogun to Babcock University Teaching Hospital, Ilishan.
He was one of the Africa’s finest actors, musicians, poets, and storytellers. He was known for his roles in ‘Kongi’s Harvest,’ ‘Sango,’ ‘Shadow Parties,’ Kurunmi and many more.
Abiodun described Solanke's passing as a great loss to the theatre community and to Ogun State. He extended his condolences to Solanke's family and the people of Ipara-Remo.
The governor praised Solanke for consistently promoting the name of Ogun State through his artistic works, dating back to his time at the University of Ibadan School of Drama.
Abiodun urged Solanke's loved ones to celebrate his life and preserve his legacy for future generations. He also highlighted Solanke's significant contributions to the arts and his impact on the global stage, including performances at various festivals and collaborations with international musicians.
The governor concluded by stating that Solanke's sonorous voice, impressive gesticulations, and electrifying dances would be greatly missed.
