Magistrate Daniel Njoku of the Lagos State Magistrate Court, Oshodi has fined 10 environmental offenders various sums of money upon their conviction for environmental offences.
Those convicted include Aminu Kanjau, Sunday Jesuseye, Ojo, Ohamara Chidinma, Tawa Yusuf, Ojebunmi Mohammed, Abdulahi Lawal, Segun Alaoye, Chinecherem Nkwako, and Gafar Ajose.
The LAWMA Managing Director, Dr. Muyiwa Gbadegesin, noted that the era of people treating the environment with disdain was over, as the agency would go hard on individuals and entities that flouted environmental laws of the state.
Gbadegesin further disclosed that the enforcement team of LAWMA has been strategically positioned to work around the metropolis, apprehending those who would want to hide under the cover of darkness to dump waste at unauthorised locations.
He added that the agency was also collaborating with sister agencies like the Lagos State Environmental Sanitation Corps in its determined enforcement drive.
