Guinness World Records Warns 'Please Enough With The Record-A-Thons'

Guinness World Records has said enough is enough with the different record-a-thons Nigerians and other parts of the world have ventured into in recent times.

GWR asked everyone to stop with the record-attempts while replying a Nigerian lady after she announced her intention to create her own record-breaking category.

The British reference book issued the cautionary post on Threads in response to a user who announced her interest to attempt “Idea-a-thon and puff puff-a-thon”.

In the terse post, GWR wrote: “Please enough with the record-a-thons”.

The post also comes at about the same time when Tembu Daniel, the Cameroonian skit maker, began his quest to break the world record for the longest crying marathon by an individual.

More Nigerians have also been taking a shot at the GWR after Hilda Baci surpassed her predecessor to set a new time for the longest cooking marathon by an individual.

In May, Baci pulled off a 100-hour attempt to set the new record, dethroning India’s Lata Tondon’s 87 hours 45 minutes previously set in 2019.

Shortly after Baci’s feat, Damilola Adeparusi, another chef, started her cooking marathon for five days.

Then came Adeyeye Adeola who also attempted to upturn Baci’s record in a 150-hour spell.

In the same vein, Temitope Adebayo, a chef based in Ibadan, announced his intention to cook for over 120 hours.

Hassan Joshua Bature, a computer science lecturer at the Federal University, Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE), also revealed plans to undertake a 150-hour teaching marathon.

Similarly, Danny Zara, a Cameroonian, also announced her intention to set a world record for the longest-sex marathon.

Joyce Ijeoma, a Nigerian masseur who was attempting to break the world record for the longest massage on different individuals, recently collapsed.

Last week, GWR issued a short statement to people attempting to set new world records.

In the statement, the British reference book advised participants to properly confirm with “our team” before attempting to break any world record.
