Stop Roadside Parkings, Displaying Wares On Road, TRACE Caution Motorists,Traders To Reduce Crashes

 

 

 

 

 In furtherance of The traffic stands on ensuring a safer Ogun roads connections, The Ijako Unit Command of Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency (TRACE), on Tuesday, June 13, 2023, embarked on public enlightenment/sensitization exercise at Ijako popular market on Lagos/Abeokuta Expressway in Ado-Odo/Ota Local Government Area of the state over illegal obstructions of roads with goods/wares for the purpose of safer road for all.

Recall that the agency leadership was in constant directives to sanitise obstructions and abuses of the gateway road connections.

 The exercise, was in line with the directives of the TRACE Corps Commander/Chief Executive Officer, Cdr Abdulfatai Olaseni Ogunyemi who mandated every Commands to ensure free-flow of traffic within the state in ensuring stress-free of road users and to stem the high level of road traffic crashes.

While addressing the traders at the market, Cdr Temitope Victoria Oseni, who led some of the agency’s operatives, discouraged the traders from obstructing the ever busy expressway with their goods, saying the state government is against the impunity because it endangering the lives of other road users.

She expressed concern over the increasing number of casualties recorded from crashes that involved roadside traders. She, therefore, cautioned traders against the displaying of wares, especially pepper, tomatoes, yam tubbers, vegetables and others, along the major streets and roads to prevent road mishap.

“Many crashes could have been avoided if traders thread on the path of caution. Trading along the road is not permitted by law. We have talked to market union executives to discourage their members from doing this. Those, who continue trading along the road are creating serious security risk to themselves and to other road users.

“If they must trade, they should stay off the road behind the drainage system to create freeway and movement, and to enhance their safety when a vehicle fails break. The whole essence of trading is to earn a living but if in the process we put ourselves under security risk, what then is the benefit? She asked.

Cdr Oseni, added that, henceforth, any trader caught violating this order shall made to face the music.

She also stressed the warning to motorists, motorcyclists and tricyclists against obstructing roads in the process of picking or dropping passengers. Nothing that this unchallant attitude has always made the expressway to become narrow and prone to dangers which at times led to accidents.

Cdr Oseni said her command in line with the Corps Commander’s Directives had commenced advocacy visit to all the parks, markets, schools, religious homes among others within her jurisdiction to ensure everybody join hands with the state traffic management to evict traders and remove abandoned vehicles from the road.

Cdr Oseni, not forgot to warn drivers, who drive on one way to desist from such act, noting that any driver arrested for the offence would be subjected to psychiatric test, may be prosecuted and his/her vehicle forfeited if found quilty. “TRACE will continue to ensure safer roads to all users,” She added.

Present at the advocacy exercise were: Chairman, Hausa Community in Ijako Market, market leaders and road transport unions. They all appreciate the agency for the enlightenment as they promised to collaborate with TRACE in spreading the information among the members.
