As President Muhammadu Buhari and Vice President Yemi Osinbajo’s tenure nears its end, the Vice President recently welcomed Vice-President-elect Senator Kashim Shettima for a familiarisation tour of his wing at the presidential villa.
After exploring the offices within the Vice President’s wing and holding a brief meeting with Osinbajo, Shettima addressed State House correspondents, shedding light on the purpose of his visit.
He said, “At the invitation of Vice President Osinbajo, who is not only a friend but also a contemporary, I came here to exchange ideas on how to propel the nation forward. Out of courtesy, he personally guided me through the offices, and I must commend and express gratitude to him for extending such courtesy. It was indeed a cross-pollination of ideas.”
When questioned about the anticipated impact of the Tinubu-Shettima
Presidency, he conveyed his belief in President Tinubu’s ability to hit
the ground running from day one.
Shettima stated, “President Tinubu will not have the luxury of time. As for myself, I don’t want to make presumptuous or grand claims, but based on my interactions with him, it is evident that we will hit the ground running from the very first day.”
Regarding the recent conferment of a national honour upon him, Shettima described it as a humbling and historic experience.
He remarked, “Our achievements are not solely attributed to intellect, physical prowess, lineage, or political acumen. They are simply gifts from God to humanity, whether it’s a four-year or eight-year term. This experience humbles me and reinforces my call to national duty. With God’s grace, we need the support of everyone, particularly the media, to succeed. Therefore, I implore all of you to join us in building a new Nigeria.”
