How APC Settles For Senate Presidency,Picks Godswill Akpabio

The All Progressive Congress (APC) has announced Godswill Akpabio, a former governor of Akwa Ibom state, as the party’s consensus candidate for the next senate president of Nigeria.

The decision to zone the position to the south-south region of the country was made during a meeting of APC leaders. Outgoing governor of Kano state, Abdullahi Ganduje, confirmed this in a video shared on the internet.

In the video, Ganduje expressed confidence in Akpabio’s candidacy, referring to him as the “uncommon governor, minister, waiting to be the uncommon president of the senate.

He assured party members that the decision had been made and that an official announcement would be made on the day of the event.

It was previously reported that President-elect Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu was against zoning for the senate presidency, but it appears that the party has now resolved this issue.

The announcement of Akpabio’s candidacy has generated reactions from various quarters, with some expressing support while others criticize the decision.

Some have questioned the criteria for choosing Akpabio, while others have accused the APC of not following due process in the selection process.

The position of senate president is a highly coveted one, with significant influence and power within the legislative arm of government.

As such, the selection process is often highly politicized, with different interest groups jostling for position and power.

However, it remains to be seen how Akpabio will fare in the actual election, as there are other candidates vying for the position.
