Senior officers numbering about 20 have retired from the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS).
To this end, the Comptroller General of Customs (CGC), Col. Hameed Ali (rtd), has subsequently approved the appointment of another set of 20 senior officers into the management team of the service.
In a statement by the National Public Relations Officer of the service, Compt. Timi Bomodi, the newly appointed Officers are; EI EDORHE, DCG Finance Admin and Technical Service; HK GUMMI, DCG Tariff and Trade; M ABBA-KURA , Ag. DCG Enforcement Inspection and Investigation; AG SAIDU, Ag. DCG Human Resource Development; JP AJOKU Ag. DCG Excise, Free Trade Zone and Industrial Incentives; BA ADENIYI , Ag. DCG Strategic Research and Policy; GA ITOTOH Ag. DCG Training and Doctrine Command; O PETERS, Ag. ACG/Zonal Coordinator Zone ‘D’; AI ALFA, Ag. ACG Strategic Research and Policy, and HJ SWOMEN Ag. ACG Excise, Free Trade Zone & Industrial Incentives.
Others are: KC EGWUH, Ag. ACG Training and Doctrine Command; MBA MUSA, Ag. ACG Tariff and Trade; A DAPPA-WILLIAMS, Ag. ACG Enforcement Inspection and Investigation; BM JIBO Ag. The Customs boss, however, charged the newly promoted officers to redouble their efforts in ensuring the service achieves greater heights in its mandates of revenue generation, suppression of smuggling and trade facilitation.
However, a source had informed BUSINESSINSIDERNG that the new appointment was due to vacant seats sue to retirement, length of service by the senior officers.
The source said, “The appointment of new DCGs and ACGs in Acting capacity is a new development after the Board meeting. Those new positions became vacant following the retirement of about 8 members of Management by 31st January. These were statutory retirements based on age or lenght of service,” the source said.
It could be recall that one of the newly appointed DCGs, Wale Adeniyi, was recently confered a national honour – Member of the Order of the Federal Republic (MFR), by President Muhammadu Buhari in October, 2022.
DCG Adeniyi who served as Customs spokesman for almost two decades until January 2017 when he was redeployed to the Apapa Area Command.
He was promoted to the rank of Comptroller in 2017 and appointed Deputy Commandant of the Nigeria Customs Command and Staff College, Gwagwalada, Abuja.
In 2019 he was redeployed to serve as the Controller in charge of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA) Command, Lagos.
He was promoted to the rank of Assistant Comptroller General in February 2020 shortly after he supervised the seizure of $8.07 million cash being illegally taken out of Nigeria through the E-Wing of the international airport tarmac. He was subsequently posted to head the Nigeria Customs Command and Staff College, Gwagwalada, Abuja as Commandant.
