Football: I'll Revive Ogun Annual Principals Cup, Adebutu Vows

ABEOKUTA - The Peoples Democratic Party governorship candidate in Ogun State, Hon. Oladipupo Adebutu has reiterated his commitment to resuscitate the moribund annual Principals Cup Football competition for secondary school students if elected as governor in 2023.

Adebutu who flayed Gov. Abiodun for abandoning sports sector of the state, noted that if the government paid enough attention to the sector, crime rates in the state would have been reduced to the lowest ebb.

The PDP governorship candidate spoke at the weekend during a 3-Day retreat organized by National Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ), Ogun State chapter.

He added that, he would upgrade sporting facilities across the state to attract international competition and drive investors to the state.

The farmer cum politician vowed to turn around the fortunes of the state if elected governor in 2023 for the benefit of all the good people of the state.

Adebutu said he is more concerned about indigent and lower class people in the state, saying that is why he wants to take a leading political position to solve so many of the problems

He explained that his money alone could not solve Ogun state’s problems, saying that is why he wants to take political power and apply a method that would change the narrative positively.

“I have done so many projects in the state so as to bridge the gap in government by giving out transformers,empowerment programs, health care programs, and more employment opportunities.”

Hon. Adebutu boasted that he was aware that there was no money in the country nor the state, but he would validate ideas through the available resources that would encourage people to bring back money to Ogun.

“I know there is no money in the state, but we shall encourage people to bring their money back to Ogun state by what we will do.” He said

The PDP governorship candidate said with this experience, he would invite investors to the state to boost its economy and create more employment for the good people of the state.

Adebutu who was accompanied by his deputy, Alhaji Adekunle Akinlade said, “The best way out for me is to address the problem, is having political power first, and use that to turn around the fortune of the state, by encouraging investors, I believe my emergence as Governor will attract investors.”

He reiterated that his passion to take political power was not because he wanted to steal government money like every other politician, but to change the narrative and make people know what is called good governance.

Adebutu who is an advocate of the local government autonomy stated that the fund and allocations of the local government should go to directly to them to ensure better administration and development at the grassroots.

He said, “Ogun State has no money to go forward anymore, but we will encourage investors to come. My personal money cannot solve Ogun state problems. What to do first is having political power, which I will use to address the problem, by encouraging investors and turn around the state.”

He pointed out that he had prophesied in the past that states should be given autonomy to generate power on their own, which was now approved by the federal government.

Speaking earlier, the PDP Deputy governorship candidate, Hon. Adekunle Akinlade, urged journalists to shun unethical practices in the discharge of their journalism duty.

Akinlade reiterated the need for journalists to ensure balance, fairness, and clarity while reporting the coming electioneering campaign and election proper.

According to him, “When reporting, give information that is balanced so that people can understand clearly.”

Meanwhile, the chairperson of Ogun(NAWOJ), Mrs. Modupeola Shobukola, told journalists to never run out of ethics in their reporting.

She added that journalists should take it as part of their responsibilities to read the code and conduct election reporting reports to keep them abreast of the forthcoming 2023 election.
