Ogun TRACE Takes New Decision On Haphazard Parking Of Vehicles

Going by the incessant record of crashes and avoidable incidents on the road which occurs due to drivers and vehicle owners attitudes towards obedience to traffic rules and regulations.

 
The Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency, TRACE has given owners of vehicles parked haphazardly on the roads one week removal notice to remove them or have them removed by the Agency.

The TRACE Corps Commander /CEO 'Seni Ogunyemi, gave the directive on Friday in Abeokuta, the state capital during an interview with journalists.

 
He said the directive was necessitated by the increasing number of accidents in the state, most of which were caused by haphazard parking on the roads.

"From our records, it is glaring that most of the accidents that occurred in the state in the past few weeks were caused by haphazard parking. We can no longer condone careless attitude of such vehicle owners.

"It either an oncoming vehicle driven by a careless driver rammed into a stationary vehicle haphazardly parked on the road, leading to terrible accidents or vehicles parked on the road blocking other road users leading to traffic bottle-neck prompting loss of life and property. Enough is enough.

"I have directed all Area Commanders in TRACE to ensure compliance of my directive which is still within the law that established TRACE, immediately after the expiration of one week from today", he said.
The TRACE Boss further said the Agency has to take this drastic action to save lives of road users, especially at this period of the rains.

When reminded that owners of trucks and other big vehicles usually parked haphazardly on the roads are mostly influential people in the society and TRACE might be stepping on their toes, the TRACE boss said, "We prefer saving lives to being afraid of stepping on stones, the law has no respect to anyone and more so, the state government has given us the mandate to get rid of nuisance on the roads to reduce accident rate".

According to Commder Ogunyemi, owners of vehicles removed on the roads know the implication of their attitude of not complying with traffic regulation and should be ready to face the penalities".
