The
Rivers State Command of Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), has creates
an awareness on the importance of embracing cycling in Nigeria.
The
command made it known that adopting bicycles as means of none motorised
transport is a means of curbing some health challenges such as High
Blood Pressure and high sugar level.
Its
Sector Commander, Salisu Umar Galadunci, while leading government
officials and other bicycle riders across some areas in the state,
disclosed that year 2022 World Bicycle Day, tagged: “Cycling for earth
and humanity,” was designated by the United Nations (UN) that riding
bicycle apart from being safer than cars and motorcycles also has health
benefits.
He
said “It not just for a common man but for everybody as a means of
improving health. It was unanimously agreed that every June 3rd would be
celebrated as world bicycle day because, riding bicycle reduces
emission and increases health. It has been observed that if you ride
bicycle for 30 minutes, it is equivalent to any exercise you are going
to do for one week. It creates more parking spaces. If 10 bicycles can
be parked where one car can occupy without inhaling of emissions.”
He urged bicycle riders to always obey traffic rules while on the roads.
The
event have attendance of Zonal Commanding Officer Zone 6 Headquarters,

Geomendinico Massari; Prof Mathew Wegwu; DCC Kehinde Dahunsi ZPRS, DCC
Isaac Awe SAHR, DCC MV Mbaegbu DCCOPS and State Coordinator Special
Marshals SM Theophilus Igbobo.
