Why Kaduna Train Was Attacked – Oby Ezekwesili
Oby Ezekwesili, a former Minister of Education, has said that attacks such as the bombing of the Kaduna-bound train could only happen when a country is being ruled by callous leaders.
Gunmen suspected to be terrorists bombed the Abuja-Kaduna train between Katari and Rigina axis on Monday night, leaving hundreds of passengers dead in the attack.
DAILY POST reports that many passengers were said to have been initially kidnapped including Zamfara State’s former Deputy Governor, Mallam Ibrahim Wakkala Liman, during the deadly attack.
Others were shot dead and an unascertained number of the passengers also sustained various degrees of injury as a result of gunshots.
Ezekwesili noted that: “Nigeria has a super callous political class that: places zero value on the lives of their citizens, and have succeeded in making even the long-suffering citizens soulless to the point of placing zero value on the lives of their fellow citizens.”
The former minister described the security situation in the country as: “Tragic beyond belief,” while praying for God to comfort the family of Dr Chinelo, who cried out on Twitter after she was shot by the bandits saying, “I’m in the train, I’ve been shot…please pray for me.” before giving up the ghost that ill-fated day.
Her tweet was seen as a prank by many social media users, who went on to call her different names.
“May God comfort the families of Chinelo and other victims of the terrorist attack of Kaduna bound train,” she said.
“It is the greatest tragedy of life to be ruled by a political class that places zero value on life.
“Someday, Citizens will eventually understand this and collectively act.”
