Amosun didn’t stop piling pressure but President Buhari insisted that “in the spirit of fairness what goes for others, goes for Ogun state as well”
The Details of how Governor Dapo Abiodun outwitted his predecessor Senator Ibikunle Amosun to secure the chairmanship position of the ruling All Progressives Congress(APC) in Ogun state for his camp have emerged.
“It was a directive by President Muhammadu Buhari that turned things on its head for Amosun, the President ordered that the status before the crises in all the states should be retained as part of efforts to aid a successful national convention,” according to SocietyNow.Ng
The National Convention of the APC is fixed for February 26 with different pre-stages, – including the selection of delegates and resolution of possible conflicts – earmarked almost every day till the main event.

President Buhari as the leader of the party was keen not to start another round of crisis in states like Ogun and others where there are strong disputes over which factional chairman is recognized at the national level ahead of the national convention.
“So, at the last moment, the President directed the status before the crisis to be retained, it was like snatching victory from the jaws of defeat for the Abiodun camp,” a source informed.
The information available revealed that up till the last hours of yesterday, February 2, 2022, it seemed Amosun would get away with making his choice, Derin Adebiyi, the duly recognized chairman of the Ogun state APC at Thursday’s inauguration in Abuja,
It was further gathered that former governor Amosun didn’t stop piling pressure but President Buhari insisted that “in the spirit of fairness what goes for others, goes for Ogun state as well”.
Governor Abiodun’ choice, Yemi Sanusi, was inaugurated along with others on Thursday, February 3, 2022.
Further checks revealed that a consolatory offer that the “issues will be revisited by the new national officers produced by the National Convention’ was made by the President.
“But looking at it from the angle that the general election is already around the corner and the APC is keen to retain the Presidency, I that is just speaking to how positions will be properly by the contending factions.” (SocietyNow)
