A bill to protect children from abuse will be effective in Jigawa State, but there is little to cheer for the child in that state all the same.

The state House of Assembly, which passed the law on Tuesday, says the legislation would not regulate the age of marriage in the state. Reason: “it’s controversial and alien to predominant religion and culture of the residents".
