Police CP arrest 3 house masters, two more students over Sylvester Oromoni’s death

The Lagos State Police Command has arrested and detained three house masters who were on duty during the senior students allegedly being involved in the torture of a 12-year-old student of Dowen College, Sylvester Oromoni.

Hakeem Odumosu, the State Commissioner of police, also revealed that two more students were arrested, bringing the total number of students in custody to five.

The police command said they have obtained a court order to detain the students for 21 days at the Juvenile centre.

Recall three students of Dowen College in Lekki, Lagos State, were earlier detained in the custody of police for allegedly assaulting 12-year-old Sylvester Oromoni.

He disclosed that the Command launched a full-scale probe into the circumstances culminating in the death of Oromoni on November 30, 2021.

Two of the parents of the accused students had come out to say their children were not responsible for the death of Sylvester Oromoni.

Dowen College, situated in Lekki, Lagos, has been in the eye of the storm since the demise of the 12-year-old boy.

The student’s father had earlier said that his child was beaten and fed a liquid chemical.

But the school dismissed the claim, alleging that he sustained injuries while playing football with his colleagues.

Odumosu had earlier ordered an investigation into Oromoni’s death while Dowen College was also sealed off last Sunday.

On Monday, Femi Falana, a human rights lawyer, called for a coroner’s inquest into the circumstances surrounding Oromoni’s demise.
