Ekiti State Police Command under the leadership of CP Babatunde Mobayo has continued to record great feat in the fight against kidnapping, cultism, armed robbery and other criminality in the State. The operatives of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) of the Ekiti State Command has successfully paraded a dismissed policeman, two ladies and six other persons for alleged murder, kidnapping, unlawful possession of firearm.
In a press statement e-signed and released to the National Association of Online Security News Publishers (NAOSNP) by the Command's Spokesperson, ASP Abutu Sunday stated that, "On behalf of the Commissioner of Police, Ekiti State Command, CP TUNDE MOBAYO and the entire Officers and Men of the Ekiti State Police Command, I welcome you all to today's press briefing that is aimed at keeping you abreast of some of the recent landmark breakthroughs recorded by the Officers and Men of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) of the Command."
"It would be recalled that on Monday 8th November, 2021, I invited you for a similar press briefing where four (4) persons were arrested for being responsible for different kidnappings and other heinous offences. Some of the suspects, I told you, were at large while the Command had activated effort to track them down. I am glad to inform you today that a great success has been recorded in that regard."
(A) CASE OF CONSPIRACY, ARMED ROBBERY, BURGLARY, KIDNAPPING, MURDER AND UNLAWFUL POSSESSION OF FIREARMS:- Sequel to the arrest of one Adebayo Akeem Banji a.k.a Oro, Ogunremi Bunmi a.k.a Bafon, Ige Adu and Jimoh Fayoke 'f' on 06/11/2021 in Ado-Ekiti by the Operatives of the Rapid Response Squad(RRS) for conspiracy, armed robbery, burglary, kidnapping, murder and unlawful possession of firearms, Police investigation led to the arrest of one Johnson Apotire 'm' on 17/11/2021 who confessed to be a member of the notorious kidnapping gang and further stated that he usually impersonate Fulani herdsmen due to his physical resemblance to a Fulani man.
One Jimoh Dele a.k.a Dele Petim 'm' was arrested in Ilorin, Kwara State on 18/11/2021 who confessed to be the third in command of the notorious kidnapping gang. He stated that he specializes in burglary and stealing, including motorcycle and has burgled more than ten shops/houses, carted away more than twelve(12) motorcycles. He confessed further that the four(4) guns earlier recovered by the Police were concealed by him in his mother-in- law's house in Ado-Ekiti. The suspect mentioned one Alhaji Adebayo Ahmed 'm' as his major receiver of the stolen motorcycles and other loots. According to him, Alhaji Adebayo Ahmed is not unaware of his criminal activities. Alhaji Adebayo Ahmed was however, arrested in Ilorin, Kwara State on 18/11/2021 by the RRS Operatives.
One Ayeni Blessing 'm' was also arrested as one of the members of the kidnappers syndicate. The earlier arrested Ige Adu 'm', in his confessional statement, mentioned Ayeni Blessing and Femi Adewale who is still at large, as members of the kidnapping gang whose duty is to identify who is to be kidnapped. It was revealed that Ayeni Blessing and Femi Adewale were the ones who identified Late Chief Ayeni Abiodun who was earlier kidnapped by the gang and later jumped out of their moving car but unfortunately died while receiving medical attention in the hospital. During interrogation, Ayeni Blessing confessed to be a member of the kidnapping gang.
Also arrested is one Ayo Samuel, a dismissed Policeman, who confessed to be a member of the kidnapping gang and has participated in different kidnappings and robberies in the State.
It should be noted that Dele Jimoh and Ayeni Blessing are two of the three fleeing kidnapping suspects declared wanted by the Command. Effort is on top gear for possible arrest of Samuel Ebira and Dayo Igwe who were mentioned by the arrested suspects as their gang members.
(B). CASE OF KIDNAPPING:- On 08/11/2021, one Sule Abdullahi 'm' reported to the Police that his daughter, one Abdullahi Shekina was kidnapped by unknown persons. On 20/11/2021, the suspect started demanding for a ransom of fifty thousand naira (#50,000:00) from the father via phone call before his daughter could be released.
Upon the receipt of the information, the Rapid Response Squad(RRS) Operatives swung into action and arrested one Mubarak Bello in Igbara-Odo-Ekiti where he was demanding for the ransom. During interrogation, the suspect confessed to the commission of the crime and mentioned one Ali Ibrahim a.k.a Dabadaba as his accomplice. Ali Ibrahim was also arrested and they both confessed to have handed over the victim to one Fatima Abdullahi 'f' who forcefully whisked her away to Ilesa, Osun State where the victim was kept hostage for 13days. The RRS operatives extended investigation to Osun State where the victim was rescued and Fatima Abdullahi was arrested.
(C). CASE OF SELF KIDNAPPING:- On 20/11/2021 at about 1030hrs, a distress call was received from one Sule Nana 'f' that she was kidnapped by unknown gunmen along Ifaki/Oye-Ekiti road alongside other passengers. She called her husband that the kidnappers were demanding for a sum of fifty thousand naira (#50,000:00) ransom before she could be released. The RRS Operatives, upon the receipt of the complaint, swung into action by combing the bush along Ifaki/Oye-Ekiti before it was later discovered that Sule Nana kidnapped herself to get money from her relatives. She has confessed to the commission of the crime.
The Command totally identifies with and tremendously appreciates the Inspector General of Police, IGP USMAN ALKALI BABA, Psc(+), NPM, Mni., whose policing vision and mission statements have served as a morale booster to the Officers and Men of the Command.
The Executive Governor of Ekiti State, His Excellency Dr. JOHN KAYODE FAYEMI, is also acknowledge for his enormous support and encouragement.
We cannot but also appreciate the Military, NSCDC, Amotekun, Local Hunters, Traditional Leaders and other stakeholders whose cooperation and support have helped the Command in clamping down on criminal elements across the State.
