New York Hits 85% Vaccination Rate

NEW YORK -

In a major milestone for New York’s vaccination effort, 85% of eligible adult New Yorkers have received at least one coronavirus vaccine shot.

“As we reach this milestone of 85 percent of New Yorkers with at least one dose, we are one step closer to finally putting an end to this pandemic and getting our lives back to normal,” Governor Kathy Hochul said in a statement.

When counting by all those age 12 and above who are eligible to be vaccinated, 72% have one shot.

New Yorkers ages 65 years and older or residents in long-term care, and all those 18 through 65 who have underlying conditions are eligible and encouraged to get a third booster shot.

A vaccine mandate for healthcare workers has been broadly considered a success, with hospital systems reporting less than 5% of their workers have refused and been fired.
