The Managing Director, Schoolsmart Online Science and Mathematics Service, Mr Sanni Adedokun said there was need to improve the quality of education in the country.
Adedokun said this on Wednesday in Sanfo-Ota, Ogun, during the presentation of gifts to winners of 2021 edition of the Schools Smart Competition.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the competition was hosted in collaboration with Vono Furniture Products Ltd.
He appealed to the Federal Government to design new strategies, update the current academic curriculum and mode of teaching in order to improve the quality of education at all levels.
“Academic attainment or excellence is not appreciated as much as music and sport industry,” he said.
Adedokun said the Schools Smart Competition, which was meant for primary schools, was approved by the Ministry of Education.
The educationist said the competition was set up to improve innovations by students across the country, adding that 50 private primary schools applied for the competition.
He added that they decided to make the competition online, due to the current COVID-19 pandemic in the country.
Adedokun said the motive of the competition was to prepare students ahead of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB).
He urged the students to be focused and self motivated, adding that they should not be distracted from their studies.
Adedokun also called on parents to continue to monitor their wards, especially as regards wrong use of phones.
The educationist also enjoined schools to encourage students to use their phones for research efforts, and not irresponsible activities.
In his remarks, Mr Raji Shina, Operations Manager,Vono Furniture Products Ltd, said the company decided to collaborate with Smart Online Services, as a way of giving back to the society.
“It is our little way of investing in our children because they are the leaders of tomorrow,” Shina said.
He advised the students to be disciplined and dedicated to their studies in order to achieve their goals.
NAN reports that St. Benedict Genius Garden Schools in Ota, came first; Jacob Model International schools, Ota, was second; while Ambassador International schools, Ota, came third.
A cash reward of N50,000, N30,000 and N20,000 were also given to the winners respectively.
Lateef Badmus, a student of St. Benedict Genius Garden Schools, who spoke on behalf of the other two runners up, said he was delighted to come first in the competition.
Badmus commended the organiser, while urging others to continue to organise programmes and competitions that would enhance the knowledge of students. (NAN) (www.nannews.)
