The President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.); the President of the Senate, Ahmad Lawan, the Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu and the National Leader of the All Progressives Congress, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, on Tuesday commiserated with the Governor of Ogun State, Dapo Abiodun, over the death of his father, Dr Emmanuel Abiodun.
The octogenarian died at the age of 89 on Monday.
Buhari, in a statement by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina, said the deceased impacted the country and left behind a strong legacy of service.
The statement reads partly, “President Buhari condoles with institutions and educationists in the state, who had worked with Dr Abiodun, fondly called ‘Baba Teacher,’ over many years, affirming that his principles of living for God, good of others and the country, and sharing knowledge greatly impacted on the entire Western Nigeria and the country.
“The President believes Dr Abiodun’s passing, leaving a strong legacy of service to humanity, further stirs the need for reflection and making of right choices for living, particularly in working for the betterment of mankind.”
Likewise, the President of the Senate in a statement by his Special Adviser, Media, Ola Awoniyi, said, “The Abiodun Family can take solace in the fact that its patriarch lived an impactful life as evident in his own great accomplishments and those of his children.
“’Baba Teacher’ will continue to live in the hearts of the numerous people to whom he imparted knowledge as a school teacher.”
Also, Sanwo-Olu, in a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Gboyega Akosile, said, “On behalf of the good people of Lagos State and my adorable wife, Ibijoke, I sympathise with my friend and brother, Governor Dapo Abiodun, on the demise of his beloved father, Dr Emmanuel Abiodun. I also send my heartfelt condolences to Mama, Mrs Victoria Abiodun; and the entire Abiodun family in Iperu-Remo and the people of Ogun State over the death of the patriarch of Abiodun family.”
Sanwo-Olu described the late Abiodun as an educationist who made positive impact on his students and urged the family to take solace in God for a life well spent.
Similarly, Tinubu in a condolence message issued by his media office said losing one’s father no matter how old could be a very painful experience.
“However, I urge you to take heart and be consoled by the memories of the good times you shared together and the fact that Dr Adesanya lived to a rather advanced age of 89.
“Please know that our thoughts are with you and the family at this time. While praying that God Almighty comfort you and the entire Abiodun family, we also beseech Him to grant the soul of papa eternal rest.”
In the same vein, the Abia State Governor, Okezie Ikpeazu, in a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Onyebuchi Ememank, said, “For a man who spent a greater part of his life imparting knowledge and inculcating the right values into his pupils and students, it is no surprise that God granted him the grace to live to see one of his sons rise to become a state governor in Nigeria.”
