It is with pleasure I address you today in my first media chat as the *Assistant Inspector-General of Police, Zone 2 Command*. First, I want to thank the Almighty God for the gift of life, His protection and for the opportunity to serve mankind through the *Nigeria Police* and the *Acting Inspector-General of Police, IGP Usman Alkali Baba, psc(+), NPM, fdc* for this new assigned task.
As we turn into a new phase of policing in the *Zone* though daunting, I and the officers and men shall strive not only to keep the flag flying, but work assiduously to pull down the crime index. Most importantly, we are going to infuse more fire and have a quick reaction to situations and incidents, while ensuring healthy respect for the right of citizens.
In doing this, we shall rejig the current strategy for better service delivery, translate and execute the *Acting IGP Usman Alkali Baba’s* vision of the Police in the *Zone*. It is therefore, our responsibility to make the Zone safer and more secure for economic growth and for everyone to live in. We shall also ensure that the rights of citizens are protected within the confines of the law.
We shall continue to seek for the assistance, partnership and collaboration of inter-agency relationships between law enforcement agencies and relevant stakeholders for the purpose of engendering crime-fighting strategies to rid the Zone of crime. By and large, we would need the cooperation and collaboration of the good people of Lagos and Ogun States to achieve our goal.
Our strategy will revolve round the *“Three-Ps”* of Community Policing, which are:
I. *Prevention*:– We shall deal aggressively with small crimes to deter more serious crimes. We will deny criminals the freedom of space to operate; this will reduce the opportunity for commission of crime by using innovative approaches.
II. *Problem-Solving*:– We are going to rigorously analyze the causes of delinquency and violent behaviours and propose measures capable of reducing crime to a negligible level. We are going to focus on public places, transportation systems, entertainment centres, sensitize the community, among others.
III. *Partnership*:- We are going to fight crime and reinforce public safety, provide wraparound security for the people of the *Zone*, by collaborating actively with other *security agencies, traditional rulers, stakeholders, media, opinion/political leaders and the public*.
Finally, as we look forward to working together, we assure the good people of both Lagos and Ogun States of our worthy stewardship and safe communities at all times.
