The Lagos and Ogun Zonal Commanding Officer of Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) ACM Peter Kibo has urged officers of the agency to show commitment, transparency and comport themselves while discharging their duty.
He said all FRSC officials are expected to show more committment and discharge their duties with diligent, integrity and professionalism.
ACM Kibo disclosed this at the Zone RS2, Annual Retreat held on Thursday, 24 June 2021 at Country Club, Ikeja, Lagos State, with the theme “Achieving Corps Mandate in the Midst of Current Global Pandemic”.
The retreat, Zonal Commander Kibo said was part of the FRSC’s drive to enable it fulfil its statutory mandate, saying making the highway safe for the motorists and other road users is the major focus of FRSC.
The ZCO explained Corps' mandate and its strategic goal for the year 2021 and beyond is to ensure a 15% reduction in RTCs and 20% reduction in fatalities. He therefore described the Retreat as a golden opportunity to review the operations of the Zone from Jan till date and strategise towards a more successful second half of the year.
He admonished the Corps' personnel to always be of good example to the public, especially the transport stakeholders, engage them more on safety education by ensuring development and sustenance of responsible service delivery and as well abstain from all forms of indiscipline that could tarnish the image of the agency.
The FRSC Lagos State Sector Commander, CC Olusegun Ogungbemide while welcoming the guests, described the retreat as part of FRSC strategy and commitment to improve on operational standard.
He described the tradition of unnecessary use of private vehicles as impeding the efforts of Government to promote inter-modal transportation and reduce road traffic density. He therefore recommended that Government intensifies its efforts to promote the use of trains, Bus Rapid Transit, waterways and other modes of public transportation.
CC Ogunbemide, thanked Ministry of Transport, sister security and traffic management agencies present for their support and collaboration.
Ogun Sector Commander, CC Ahmed Umar urged government to demonstrate equal commitment to tackling the menace of Road Traffic Crashes as it did with COVID-19 pandemic.
A senior Lecturer at the School of Transport, Lagos State University (LASU) Dr. Fatai Yakeen, who represented the Dean of the institution, Prof. Charles Asenime, while delivering lecture on the retreat's theme: “Achieving Corps Mandate in the Midst of Current Global Pandemic”, explained the various effects of the COVID-19 pandemic vis-Ã -vis road safety and made recommendations to improve road safety and traffic management post pandemic.
Lagos State Commissioner for Transportation, Hon (Dr) Frederic Oladeinde, represented by the Permanent Secretary, Mr Kamar Owodiran, in his remark, commended FRSC Lagos Zonal Command for its tactful operations during the COVID-19 lockdown and its commitment to learning.
He further assured FRSC of the continuous support of the Ministry of Transportation in tackling indisciplines causing road gridlocks and crashes in the state.
