Breaking: Two Confirmed Dead, 13 vehicles burnt in Ogun tanker explosion

Two persons have been confirmed dead while 13 vehicles were burnt in a tanker explosion which occurred early this morning around new Kara market along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.

Giving the breakdown of the vehicles, the Public Relations Officer, Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps, Mr Babatunde Akinbiyi, said they were six tankers loaded with Premium Motor Spirit(petrol), two gas-laden tankers, three trucks out of which one was loaded with fish and two cars.

The TRACE spokesman explained that at about 4am, a fully loaded trailer had fell around the new Kara market, and in the ensuing gridlock caused by the incident, a tanker laden with fuel, in the hold up suddenly burst into flames affecting seven other trucks and two cars in the process.

While he said rescue operations continue with the combined efforts of TRACE, FRSC, Police NSCDC and the Fire Service, motorists are advised to ply the alternative routes.

For vehicles travelling to Lagos, they should go through Saapade-Ode/Remo-Iperu-Sagamu to relink Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.

He added, “In addition, vehicles moving inbound Ibadan should also go through Sagamu-Iperu-Ode/Remo-Saapade to relink Lagos-Ibadan expressway.”
