Farmers/Herders Clash: NANS Seeks Security Protection For Ogun Students

ABEOKUTA - The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) Ogun state chapter has sought for more protection of students in the state.

The request is sequel to the news of clashes between herders/farmers in some parts of the state.

They also made an appeal to end incessant robbery attacks on innocent students by suspected armed robbers.

The requests are contained in a statement signed by its Chairman, Damilola Simeon Kehinde and Vice Chairman, Ekundinna Segun Elvis respectively.

The association expressed confidence in the security architecture put in place by the Dapo Abiodun-led administration.

The students however empathized the need to beef up security in and around campuses across the state, which has the highest number of tertiary institutions in the country.

The statement read in parts, "based on the news about farmers and herders in this state, we want to call on Governor Dapo Abiodun to deploy more security presence in and around all our campuses.

"We have the highest number of campuses located in this state and therefore there is need for all students to be adequately protected.

"We also want to call on the Ogun State Commissioner of Police to curtail incessant armed robbery cases being experienced by some of the students".

The statement is coming at a time the governor played host to four northern governors and their Ondo state counterpart as parts of efforts to resolve the lingering crisis between herders and farmers.
