ireport WhatsApp commends FRSC over duty commitment, pledges more support

 

Giving the commendation at Mowe Unit Command of the Corps, the group's Converner, Comrade Segun Sunmonu Adams (Asiwaju), who led other representatives to presents some gifts to FRSC personnel who worked tirelessly to ensure free flow and safety of travellers during the Christmas and New Year Celebrations at the Lagos-Ibadan expressway, expressed delight at the responsiveness of members of the Corps to emergencies, thereby providing succour to victims of road traffic crashes. 

He said: "We are member of WhatsApp platform group - iREPORT group of Lagos-Ibadan expressway. It is just a formed group of like-minded people from every part and everywhere within Lagos-Ibadan to Mowe and a little beyond to compliment the efforts of traffic management in disseminating traffic news on every situations along the corridor to our members and public generally.

"We are about 260 like-minded and faceless individuals, connecting through WhatsApp platform with objectivity of intimating ourselves on traffic situations on Lagos-Ibadan expressway by releasing traffic news to whoever on transit at any particular time and every others respond.

"The major summary is to help our members and other motoring public get traffic situations on the road at all traveling time. It has been helping us navigate and managing our time effectively while on the road. That's just what tied us together even though we are faceless," he said.

Comrade Sunmonu Adams, while disclosing what prompted members of the group on the gesture of donating gifts to FRSC personnel to commended them for their unrelented efforts of saving lives from perishing on the road during the yelutide, said: "At the end of the year - December 31, 2020, something happened dramatically along the corridor that held down the road for almost two days. That event spured us within ourselves to say let's appreciate this people that we see, we know that are doing what everybody is seeing. They are on the road making sure the impediment that held everybody for 24 hours removed before they leave or neither rest.

"This, made us gathered ourselves despite we are faceless that it's mandatory we should do something to appreciate their efforts. That was the objective and the driven point. Within ourselves, we decided to raise funds and provided what exactly we discovered the personnel would need most as they are always on the road with the mandate of making highways more safe for the users.

"We made provision for soft drinks, water, face towels in quantities so that it can be spread across to all FRSC personnel on the road. We, as well made provision for recharge cards of all networks for them," he added.

He opined that the group's representatives at the event, through the interface of the Corridor 1 Commander, DCC Kehinde G. Hamzat and Mowe Unit Commander ACC Abdullahi Denja, have able to gathered more knowledge and understanding about some major challenges, impediments, human parts, recalciltrant nature of road users, which good numbers of people, unjustly blamed FRSC without knowing fully the backing door of what they do within the capacity of their service delivery. 

Comrade Sunmonu Adams enjoined to road users to always adhere strictly to road safety instructions, having attitudinal changes and required maximum patient needed while behind the wheel. 

He appealed to road users especially motorists to always disregard the habit of driving against traffic should any traffic snarl on the road, driving recklessly, driving beyond stipulated speed limits, lack of vehicle maintenance. "Road users are expected to do everything within minimum requirements that could forestall the major ones they cannot afford. Safety should be first priority and watchword of road users - motorists, okada riders, tricyclists even pedestrians while making use of roads," Comrade Sumonu Adams, added.

He pledged the group's ever support and collaboration with FRSC in spreading the gospel of safety in the society. 

In response, DCC Hamzat expressed his surprise in commendation, "that some people can come out of their way to appreciate men and women of the FRSC".

In expressing his happiness, he admonished that members of the public should emulate this kind of gestures to say weldone to men and public officers who are seen to be doing well in their duties."

DCC Hamzat, however, sent a word of condemnation to some unscrupulous set of people, hiding under the last #EndSARS protest to damage FRSC vehicles and other infrastructures, urging them to desist from such criminal acts, "it's uncalled for", he lamented.

ACC Denja, while receiving the laudable gifts, thanked the group for deemed it fit to come out publicly to reward the deployed personnel for their efforts of making the expressway free from gridlocks during the yuletide.

He said FRSC would continue to partner stakeholders, sister agencies on strategies towards enhancement of safer road, fuller lives.
