'

'Ember' months campaign is FRSC yearly tradition to changed the mindset of the public that the last four months of the year proned more to accident due to its attachment with evil spirits thereby increasing traffic crash rate. It also organised across the Corps Commands in Nigeria to furher educate motoring public that safety on the road during the Yuletide season should be first priority when using the road.

In this regard, the Ogun State Sector Commander of FRSC, CC Ahmed Umar appealed to road users especially the drivers to shun disobedience to traffic rules, saying there was no evil attached to the last four months of the year that increased accident rate except bad attitude towards the use of roads. 

CC Umar, who ably represented by Assistant Corps Commander Anthony Osahon emphasised that passengers are at liberty of guiding and correcting drivers bad attitude that could cause traffic crashes while behind the wheels. Adding that drivers can be guided or corrected on wrong attitudes like use of phones, alcoholic drinking and other habits detrimental to their safety while driving.

The sector commander, explained that the increase in the rate of accidents during the ember months was due to the increase in socio-economic activities during the period which led to heavy traffic on roads, urged drivers to always observe the normal speed limit, avoid use of worn-out tyres, improper maintenance of vehicles, overloading, driving under influence of alcoholic substances and night journey.

He also warned motorcycle riders against riding without crash helmets, noting that thousands of people had lost their lives as a result of motorcycle accidents in the country.

The Mowe Unit Commander,  ACC Denja Abdullahi, urged the road users that it is possible to make the period crash free or at least to reduce accident to bearest minimum. 

He admitted that the corridor is one of the most busiest and critical corridors in the nation's road network but assure all that with due obedience to driving and guidelines laid down by the FRSC, togetherly, we can achieve the year theme: "Drive Safe to Stay Safe"

Commander Denja use the medium to correct wrong notion of those who belief powers of darkness use the period to harvest souls via accidents, a claim which is not scientifically proven wherever, he said.

"No matter how skillful you are in driving you must constantly reflect on safety consciousness and basic traffic guidelines in order to stay safe, a step which would not only keep you safe but keeps other drivers and pedestrians safe as well", he said.

The Ogun-Oyo-Osun states Corridor Commander, DCC Kehinde Hamzat, counsel drivers to take pride in their jobs as lives of passengers are in their hands at all times. He added overloading of persons and carriages are injurious to both vehicles and drivers alike, 

He charged drivers, since the whole campaign centered on them to always have adequate maintenance of their vehicles before embarking on any trip and avoid driving against traffic as it usually cause accident and cut lives short in the long run.

One of the Stakeholders and Chairman at the flag off, Mr Ade Afolabi the Chief Executive Officer Buono doors, applauded the command for the task of managing the Nation's busiest road network. He also suggested adequate signposts be erected in strategic places for better road management and for other road users.
