House passes vote of confidence on Speaker; may suspend Lawmakers behind allegation
The Lagos State House of Assembly on Monday passed a vote of confidence on Speaker Mudashiru Obasa.
The Lawmakers said Obasa had demonstrated exemplary leadership so far so good.
Obasa
had been in the eye of the storm following ongoing investigation by the
Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) into his financial
dealings in the house.
While
some of his accounts had been frozen courtesy of the order of Federal
High Court in Lagos, the speaker was interrogated last week by
operatives of the anti-graft body in Lagos. He was subsequently released
on administrative bail.
However,
the Lawmakers, who spoke one after the other, also denied plans to
impeach the speaker which had been flying on social media, describing
the report as false.
“I
am not one of those who signed any purported impeachment of the
Speaker. I appreciate the emergency plenary you (Obasa) convened for the
good people of Alimosho on the recent gas explosion and the
#EndSarsNow. We appreciate your leadership, says Prince Bisi Yusuf.
“We
are tired of these false news flying in the social media. We did not or
intend to sign any impeachment documents”- Hon. Age-Sulaimon Rauf.
“It
is clear that Hon Jimoh AbdulWahab is going about searching for
information about Mr.Speaker @mudashiru_obasa , he should be
indefinitely suspended while my good brother Hon. Olanrewaju Oshun
should be investigated on this false information” - Hon. Sokunle.
“I
was shocked to see the story on “trip to Istanbul alone”, i was on that
trip, Hon. Olumuyiwa Jimoh was on the trip as well, Hon. Mojeed Fatai
and Hon. Egberongbe also. It is clear that someone is doing his best to
give this House a bad name” - Hon.Fatai Oluwa.
“We
do not impeach on Social Media, we are legislators representing
Lagosians, if we need to impeach we will be bold about it. There is no
need for an impeachment and the rumour should be disregarded -
Hon.Tobun.
“Some
people have tried to unsettle the peace and integrity of this noble
House, i think we should invoke some sanctions to maintain it’s
sanctity” - Hon. @DesmondElliot_
Hon.
David Setonji describes the Rt.hon Speaker @mudashiru_obasa as a
wonderful man, and calls on Lagosians to disregard the information on
alleged impeachment rumour.
Hon.Sylvester
Ogunkelu disclaims the alleged impeachment. He further advised that the
leadership of the House should fish out those giving out false
information to detractors for purposes of blackmail.
“This
is just a move to cause anarchy and division among the members, the
impeachment rumour is a fallacy. We did not sign any impeachment, and
the information should be disregarded”- Hon.Oluyinka Ogundimu
“@SaharaReporters
should desist from publishing false information about the House of
Assembly and the person of Rt.hon @mudashiru_obasa”- Hon. Rasheed
Makinde (Representing Ifako Ijaye II)
Hon.
Monsunmola Songodara commended Rt.Hon @mudashiru_obasa ‘s courage and
fighting spirit and assured him of the House support. She said his
leadership is worthy of emulation.
“Our
great Party @OfficialAPCNg is disappointed in whoever that decides to
go against the laid down rules of the Party. We are suppose to be in one
accord. My loyalty to you and the Party isn't flawed” - @HonKasunmu
